Smile Up Dental - Your Trusted Dental Care Provider

Being prepared for an emergency is never easy.

Call us immediately; same-day appointments are available.

Toothache
The most common causes of dental pain are infection, decay, injury, or tooth loss. As soon as you call us, we will guide you on managing the pain until you get to our clinic.

Chipped or broken tooth

Please call us immediately. Taking fast action can help save the tooth, prevent infection, and reduce the need for extensive dental treatment. Rinse your mouth with water and apply cold compresses to reduce swelling. If you can find the broken tooth fragment, please bring it.

Knocked-out Tooth

Please call us immediately if an adult (or permanent) tooth gets knocked out. We may be able to put it back. In the meantime, gently clean the tooth with a rinse in cool water; do not scrub it or use soap. Once clean, place the tooth back in its socket and hold it there with clean gauze or a washcloth. Timing is everything.

Knocked-out Baby Tooth

Call us immediately. If bleeding, rinse the mouth with water and place gauze in the opening. You can also apply cold compresses on the outside of the mouth to reduce swelling.

Lost filling

Call us immediately. Use a softened piece of sugarless chewing gum in the spot where the filling was lost.

Loose Tooth

A loose tooth may be caused by gum disease or a blow to the mouth. Call us so we can book an appointment.

Preventing Dental Emergencies

Accidents do happen, but there are ways to avoid injury to your teeth and gums:

  • Biting ice. The cold temperature and hard ice can crack and break your teeth or dental work.
  • Eating hard foods too fast. Treats like popcorn, hard candy, peanut brittle, and shelled nuts should be eaten slowly.
  • Using your teeth as tools. Let scissors cut tape and ribbons and open packaging for you, and avoid lifting or holding things with your mouth.
  • Playing sports without a mouthguard. Mouthguards absorb shock. Please book an appointment with us for a custom-fitted mouthguard.
